The Power of Giving Tuesday: Supporting Youth Mental Health in Our Community

Each year, on the first Tuesday after Thanksgiving, people around the world come together for Giving Tuesday—a global day of generosity and community impact. While Black Friday and Cyber Monday focus on holiday shopping, Giving Tuesday reminds us of something even more meaningful: the power we each have to create hope, healing, and positive change.

At Family Service Association of Greater Elgin Area (FSA), Giving Tuesday plays a vital role in helping us fulfill our mission of supporting the emotional well-being of children, teens, and families in our community. Mental health support is not a luxury—it’s essential. Yet many of the programs that strengthen and empower young people are not reimbursed by insurance or other traditional funding sources. This is where our supporters make the difference.

Your Gift Fuels Programs That Change Lives

With every dollar raised through Giving Tuesday, FSA is able to offer innovative and meaningful youth-focused services such as:

  • Trauma-Informed Yoga – helping youth manage stress, reconnect with their bodies, and build coping skills in a safe and supportive environment.
  • Game Nights and Social Activities – offering healthy social connections that reduce isolation, build friendships, and support emotional development.
  • Creative Arts Programming – giving children and teens the chance to express themselves, process feelings, and heal through movement, music, visual arts, and more.
  • Intake and Referral Services – ensuring that anyone who reaches out for help is guided to the right services and resources, even if they aren’t sure where to start.
  • Flex Funds – support youth and families with resources that help them build skills and benefit their mental well-being.

These services are entirely donor-funded, and they fill critical gaps in our community’s mental health system. Your generosity helps ensure that no child feels alone, and that families have somewhere to turn when they need support the most.

Why Giving Tuesday Matters Now More Than Ever

Youth mental health needs are rising across the country, and our own community is no exception. When we invest in prevention, connection, and emotional support, we change long-term outcomes. We strengthen families. We build resilience. We support people where they naturally live, work, learn and play.

Join Us in Making a Difference

This Giving Tuesday, we invite you to support FSA and our commitment to youth mental health. No gift is too small. Every contribution makes an impact. And if this time of the year doesn’t work for you, we need the support all year long. Please feel free to join us in supporting FSA whenever works for you.

When you give, you are helping local kids and teens feel seen, supported, and valued.

Thank you for believing in our mission and standing with us. Wellness begins with “We”!
